Week 4:Why Being Lazy Has Been Good

There is no rush. If we think intelligently about what we can achieve with our time, we can be relaxed, even lazy. In fact, being lazy—having plenty of time to think— may actually be a precondition for achieving a great deal.

Introduction:

Hey all! I hope you all had a fabulous last week as I did. I am not going to lie, as great as the week was it was also a bit of a lazy week for me. Aside from the first full week of work I did, I was relatively unproductive this week with cool events. Although sometimes having a “down week” as what we like to call them in running really helps boost success and productivity further down the line. Lets diving in as I explore what I did last week along and develop my thoughts on the “down week.”

What About the Laziness:

I started off the week with what I do most weeks. Can you guess…RUNNING. Of course, early morning starts usually give me the opportunity to get the day started off right however this week was a bit different as after running I would not get much work done. I then headed to work which most days this week was dead. It allows me time to relax and talk to Co-workers but really drags the shift. After a unproductive morning and slow shift, I find it hard to motivate myself to get school work or projects done. At the beginning of the year, one of my goals was to limit my screen time and in doing so switch from my phone to reading books. Therefore, when I get lazy, I read.

New Book!

I started to read book called The Boys in The Boat about the journey of the 1936 Washington University rowing team and there challenges and journeys to get gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. It was so good that I finished in 1 week. I like the story as it really dove deep into the hardship the young men faced with rowing, the economic depression, and their families. There mental and physical struggles reminded me of running but gave a powerful message and lessons of self-discipline of the mind, heart, and body. If you are looking for a non-fiction story to read, I highly recommend the The boys in the Boat. However I strongly suggest you read the book before the movie as the movie glosses over some very important details in the plot.

Fun Activities:

Fortunately I was able to get out the house with family and friends as well. I was able to play Pickle Ball and Tennis with Danny and while we were out at the high school the sun was setting and I was able to put my photograph skills to use, a skill I am trying to develop, and took this gorgeous photo. However this is not the true image as I photoshopped the image and color corrected the image so it truly reflexed what it looked like outside when I took the image.

On Saturday everyone was home, so we decided to play tennis which was very fun. It was good to finally have everyone together after not seeing everyone in a long time. I am really enjoying playing tennis especially with all of us since everyone is very good and this makes the game even more enjoyable.

Conclusion:

Looking back at the week it was a very relaxing week. I am so used to being very busy during the school year that I have really forgotten what it is like not doing something every second. Having this “down week” was really nice as it allowed me to decompress from all the busyness of the week prior. Even with a less-than-ideal week in productivity, I was still able to learn a whole lot from reading and applying my skills in photography and photoshop in the moment. Through this week I am now feeling more refreshed and productive for this upcoming week.
