Introduction:
Greetings all! The past week has been a very very uneventful week. I got very sick on Monday and spent most of Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday trying to survive, going to class, and resting. The later half of the week, while still a little bit sick, I was able to get a little bit of work done while also go and do somethings. Let’s get started with this week!
Sickness:
On Monday I woke up with a fever so I decided to not run that day and decided to give myself the day in order to try to get better and ensure that this sickness would not last long. The ultimate goal was to try to get better enough so I would be able to race on Friday. I felt fine in the evening on Monday. On Tuesday I had an exam early in the morning so I attended that and I felt a little sick still but alright. Unfortunately after taking a nap after class I felt awful, my fever had come back and was worse. I tried to sleep but I was in a daze dreamlike state. Eventfully I feel asleep. On Wednesday I felt good and was able to attend both of my classes and run that day. Unfortunately I felt a little bit worse so I had to call it and decided to not race and just take the rest of the week off from running. Thursday I was able to attend all my classes as well and on Friday I was finally feeling alright just really congested with a nasty cough.
Stress and taking the good out of the bad:
This week was a little bit more stressful than last week since I had two more exams along with a race on Friday. Even though I wasn’t able to study as much as I normally do, I was not even stressed at all. To be fair, these two exams were two of my easier class, however, not being able to study was not a big deal since it I tend to front load and prepare well for exams by doing more than expected of me for my homework which in turn allows me to study less since I retain the information better. Additionally, I usually get pretty stress about skipping practice and running however this time was different. Maybe its because I physically would not be able to run but more likely it is because there is nothing, I could do to control me getting sick or not and also that fact that my body was feeling really broken down and the rest would ultimately benefit me in the future and taking time off would not be a big deal. I really am proud of myself over not getting super stress over this and this is a huge step forward for me personally.
Saturday/Sunday:
After doing nothing for most of the weekdays I was finally feeling better to do some things over the weekend. On Saturday I watched the Tigers play which unfortunately they lost to the Guardians. Afterwards I went to the volleyball game with Jessie where CMU fought hard against Ball state and were able to take the dub in five sets. Afterwards I cooked some Mac and Cheese which was really delicious. Afterwards I went to Five and Below with Abby and Jessie and we roamed around before we watched Grey’s Anatomy. At around 11pm I got tired and headed home. On Sunday I watched the softball game with Steve and Mara where they unfortunately got smoked by UofM. After that I worked on my website that was long neglected and watched some TV with Steve. I also cooked some Kung Pao Chicken which was super savory. After this I shot basketball around with some teammates before we headed back to the guy’s house and watched a scary movie. It was called “The Visit” and I am not very good with horror movies, but it wasn’t too bad just a little messed up and creepy. After the movie we headed back home and went to bed.
Conclusion:
This week has certainly been a rollercoaster but is an important step in finding the silver linings in tough situations. Although I faced sickness this year, I am happy to get some much-needed rest and my ability to adapt even things do not go how I envision. Reflecting on this past week, I am proud of how I managed these challenges and making the most of the weekend with friends and activities that are fun. Here’s to cherishing the good, even with unfortunate circumstances. See you all next week!
